What Is Required
WCAG 2.1 Level AA — the international standard for web accessibility.
What JERVIS Checks
Every page is automatically tested against the key WCAG 2.1 AA criteria. Specific findings with severity, affected element and recommended fix.
Images Without Alt Text
Every image needs a descriptive alt text so screen readers can convey the content.
Links Without Accessible Text
Links without visible text or an aria-label are invisible to screen reader users.
Missing lang Attribute
Without a lang attribute on <html>, screen readers cannot pronounce the text correctly.
Form Fields Without Label
Input fields need a visible or programmatically associated label.
Color Contrast < 4.5:1
Text must have sufficient contrast against the background to remain readable for people with low vision.
Missing Skip-to-Content Link
Keyboard users need to skip the navigation to jump directly to the main content.
Missing ARIA Attributes
Interactive elements (tabs, dialogs, menus) need ARIA roles and states for screen readers.
Illogical Tab Order
Tab order must follow the visual layout. Arbitrary tabindex values confuse users.
Missing Focus Styles
Focused elements must be visually identifiable. Without focus styles, keyboard users navigate blind.

EAA/BFSG & Accessibility — FAQ
The Barrierefreiheitsstärkungsgesetz (BFSG) is the German implementation of the European Accessibility Act (EAA). It requires businesses to make their digital products and services accessible. This includes websites and online shops. The law has been in effect since June 28, 2025.
The EAA/BFSG applies to B2C companies with more than 10 employees AND more than 2M EUR annual revenue. It covers digital products and services — such as online shops, booking portals or banking apps. Micro-enterprises are exempt.
Fines of up to 100,000 EUR per violation apply. Enforcement is handled by state market surveillance authorities. Additional cease-and-desist claims from associations and competitors are possible.
Your website must meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA. Key requirements: color contrasts (min. 4.5:1), alt texts, keyboard navigation and form labels. Plus ARIA attributes, semantic HTML structure and visible focus styles.
The check runs fully automated. 9 core checks per page: alt texts, color contrasts, ARIA, labels, tab order and more. Every finding includes the WCAG reference and a specific recommended fix.
